Some wedding days feel like a highlight reel as they’re happening—small, honest moments stacking into something big and beautiful. Austin and Katie’s day on August 16th, 2025 was exactly that. It began with light rain and quiet anticipation at St. Tim’s, flowed into a room full of loved ones at Milner Winery, and ended under a warm summer sky with a packed dance floor and happy hearts.

Getting Ready at St. Tim’s

The morning started downstairs at St. Tim’s, where the girls got ready with coffee cups and the kind of easy laughter that melts away nerves. Hairspray swirled with the sound of zippers and bobby pins being put into place. It was relaxed, warm, and full of those little in-between moments that make a wedding morning feel like home.

We popped in to see the guys for a minute, ties being knotted, jackets going on, cuff links getting the final twist. There’s always a different rhythm in the groom’s space: a few jokes, a few last-minute outfit consultations, and that satisfied nod when the mirror finally gives up the “yep, good to go.”

Back in the bridal room, Katie stepped into her gorgeous dress with the help of her mom. The bustle of the morning softened as the zipper glided up and the bodice settled into place. Her mom’s hands paused on her shoulders for a second longer, the way moms do when words aren’t enough. Earrings in, veil fluffed, a deep breath. It was time.

First Looks in the Church

The rain kept us inside, but St. Tim’s is one of those churches that photographs like a dream—warm wood, clean lines, soft pools of window light. We headed upstairs and set a quiet space for first looks.

Katie met her dad first. The second he turned, his whole face shifted—shock to pride to full tenderness in a single heartbeat. They hugged the kind of hug that spans decades, laughed to keep the tears at bay, and breathed in the moment. It was simple and beautiful.

Then it was Austin’s turn. He stepped out, took one look at his bride, and you could see the smile come across his face. They tucked into each other, sharing a few whispered words and a light laugh that broke whatever nerves were left. We then made the most of the church’s architecture for a handful of portraits.

We gathered families for portraits while everyone was fresh and together. The room hummed with quiet conversation between groupings. Then it was time.

An Intimate Church Ceremony

Their church ceremony felt exactly like them—warm, grounded, and sincere. Close family filled the pews, and Cullen, their cousin, who had recently become a deacon, officiated with a balance of reverence and familiarity that made the space feel both sacred and personal. He shared a few reflections that wove together faith, family, and the kind of everyday kindness that makes a marriage thrive.

Vows were shared—followed by rings, blessed hands, and the briefest pause before that first kiss. When Austin and Katie turned to walk back down the aisle, their smiles were huge and unguarded. They were glowing, and everyone standing to clap and cheer them down the aisle. Newly married. Nothing better.

Downstairs, a casual lunch gave everyone time to enjoy a few unhurried moments of conversation. It was a sweet, practical pause between chapters—a chance for the morning to settle and for the celebration to find its groove.

From Rain to Sunshine at Milner Winery

By the time we arrived at Milner Winery, the day had transformed. The clouds broke, the sky turned summer-bright, and the vines stretched out in organized green rows like they’d been saving the view just for us.

We had space for bridal party portraits on the winery grounds.

We also grabbed a few more family portraits. Moving outside gave the photos a different texture—natural light and that relaxed feeling that comes when everyone’s had a bite to eat and a chance to sit down.

A Second Ceremony Among the Vines

One of my favorite parts of the day was the second, shorter ceremony at the winery for additional family and friends. It created a bridge between the intimacy of the church and the celebration to come—welcoming everyone into the heart of the day.

In this ceremony, Austin and Katie chose a unity ritual that felt especially meaningful: they assembled a cross together, guided by Austin’s dad. It was quiet, steady, and full of intention. Those are the small moments that expand when you look back, the ones that anchor a wedding day in memory.

Hellos, Hugs, and a Grand Entrance

After the ceremony wrapped, guests mingled near the reception area, trading stories and finding familiar faces. You could feel that people had traveled from near and far. There’s a special buzz to a wedding where the guest list is both big-hearted and intentional; you see the couple reflected back in a hundred different relationships.

The bridal party lined up for introductions and brought the fun with them. Hands in the air and big smiles as they entered the space. Then Austin and Katie made their grand entrance, slipping straight into their first dance—a sweet, lighthearted sway full of smiles and giggles. They were in their own little bubble, the room gently orbiting around them as they moved.

Dinner and Words of Wisdom

Dinner hit the spot—yummy, cozy, and exactly right for a summer celebration. Plates were cleaned and the kind of contented hum settled over the room that tells you everyone is well-fed and well-happy.

Then it was time for speeches. The fathers of the bride and groom each took a turn, offering sweet advice in the way dads do: a few memories, a few lessons, an open wish for their future. There were chuckles and throat-clears and the occasional dab of an eye. You could feel how loved Austin and Katie are—how much trust and pride has been building quietly in the background of their lives, ready to be named out loud on this day.

Parent Dances & A Surprise Cameo

The rest of the first dances began with Katie and her dad. Their song had that familiar sway built into it, and they settled in comfortably, talking softly and smiling through the moments when the words catch. Then—a short pause and a fun twist—Austin shared the best man speech from his friend, in his friend’s own words. The delivery, the timing, the stories… it landed perfectly and had the room laughing.

Next, Austin and his mom took the floor for their mother/son dance—steady and sweet, wrapped in the kind of ease that comes from a lifetime of showing up for each other. There’s a tenderness to that dance that always gets me: a mother’s hand on her son’s shoulder, a quiet word, a shared smile that says both “look how far we’ve come” and “look how ready you are.”

Golden Hour in the Vineyard

Before the dance floor officially opened, we snuck away for a few minutes in the vineyard. The light had turned that perfect golden. We walked between the rows, letting the pace of the evening slow for just a moment. We took a handful of portraits that feel like summer bottled up. It was the perfect end to the portrait part of the day, a quiet exhale before the music picked up.

DJ Keeps the Floor Full

Back inside, DJ Kelly Jordan called everyone in, queued the track, and the party took off. There was no warm-up lap—this crowd skipped straight to full throttle. Kids in tiny dress shoes, grandparents clapping to the beat, and friends forming circles. The dance floor stayed full and the joy stayed uncomplicated.

From fast favorites to slow dances that let everyone catch their breath, the setlist flowed. I love watching how a room reshapes itself over and over on a good dance night: clusters forming and dissolving, new combinations of people meeting in the middle, an family member teaching a move that’s absolutely making it into family lore. It’s community in motion—and it’s one of the best parts of a wedding day.

To the Newlyweds

Austin and Katie, thank you for inviting me into your day. May your marriage feel like the very best parts of August 16th—steady when plans change, bright when the clouds lift, and full of people who can’t wait to cheer you on. 💛
