There are wedding days that feel like they belong in a fairytale, and then there are wedding days like Ryan and Sarah’s that feel beautifully, deeply real. On September 13th, 2025, these two promised forever surrounded by their closest family and friends in Minneapolis. From their first look at Boom Island State Park, to a heartfelt ceremony overlooking the water, to a cozy reception at O’Shaughnessy Distilling Co., their day was filled with joy, laughter, tears, and a whole lot of love.I loved every second of capturing their story, and I can’t wait to share a little glimpse into it here.
A Skyline First Look
I joined Ryan and Sarah at Boom Island State Park, a hidden gem tucked along the Mississippi River with unbeatable views of the Minneapolis skyline. By the time I arrived, both were dressed and ready to see each other. The anticipation was buzzing, the kind of nervous-excited energy that fills the air right before something magical happens. Ryan, with the help of his dad, found the perfect spot overlooking the water. The city stretched out behind him, tall buildings glimmering in the late afternoon sun. He stood there waiting, taking a deep breath, adjusting his jacket one last time. Then Sarah arrived. She walked toward him in her wedding dress, every step a little faster than the last, her smile growing wider as she got closer. When Ryan turned around and saw her — his bride — the joy that washed over his face said it all. It wasn’t a big, dramatic reaction. It was something even better: tender smiles, soft laughter, and a sweet embrace that made the world quiet down just for them. That’s the thing about Ryan and Sarah, their love is steady, grounded, and full of warmth. After soaking in their first look, we spent a little time wandering around the park for portraits. Between the greenery, the water, and the skyline, Boom Island gave us such a stunning mix of backdrops. But more than that, it gave Ryan and Sarah a chance to just be together before the whirlwind of the day began.
An Intimate Ceremony by the River
Family and close friends gathered in a quiet spot at the park, facing the water. It was a simple setup, but it felt perfect, authentic to who Ryan and Sarah are. The ceremony was short, intimate, and incredibly meaningful. There were no long speeches or elaborate traditions. Just the important parts: love, promises, and a moment to seal it all with rings and vows. With the exchange of rings and a kiss, they were married! Family erupted in applause, and you could feel the love radiating from every single person there.
Cake Made with Love
One of my favorite details from their day was something wonderfully personal: Sarah baked their wedding cake herself. After the ceremony, everyone gathered around as Ryan and Sarah brought out the cake. It was simple, elegant, and clearly made with so much love. They cut into it together, shared a bite, and then served slices to their family. It was a sweet pause in the day, literally and figuratively. Sharing something homemade added such a warm, heartfelt touch. And yes, it was every bit as delicious as it looked!
Family Portraits & Candid Moments
Before heading to the reception, we carved out time for family portraits. With the river and skyline in the background, each grouping felt like a little piece of the day frozen in time. I always love this part of a wedding day because it’s where the family connections really shine through. Parents beaming with pride, siblings cracking little jokes to ease nerves, grandma watching on — all of those tiny moments matter just as much as the big ones.
Ryan and Sarah’s families were so kind and full of joy. The portraits were quick, but the laughter, hugs, and warmth lingered long after.
Reception at O’Shaughnessy Distilling Co.
From the quiet of the park, we made our way to O’Shaughnessy Distilling Co., a unique and stylish venue that was the perfect backdrop for Ryan and Sarah’s reception. The space was warm and inviting, with exposed brick, industrial charm, and just enough cozy lighting to make it feel intimate. Sarah and Ryan had added their own thoughtful touches with decorations, making the space feel personal and welcoming. Guests trickled in, grabbing drinks from the bar, greeting old friends, and, of course, making their way over to congratulate the newlyweds.
There’s something so special about that time right after a ceremony, when the formal part is over and the celebration truly begins. You could feel the shift in energy — relaxed, happy, and ready to soak in every moment.
Golden Hour Portraits
As the sun began to set, I took Ryan and Sarah outside for just a few more portraits. Golden hour in Minneapolis has a way of softening everything, and that evening was no exception. The light glowed warmly over the city skyline and wrapping these two in the dreamiest glow. It was quiet for a few minutes — just the three of us, walking, laughing, and capturing those last portraits of the day. These golden hour moments are always some of my favorites, not just for the photos but for the chance couples get to pause, breathe, and really soak in the fact that they are now husband and wife.
Dinner, Toasts, and Tears
Back inside, the celebration continued with food and heartfelt toasts. The fathers of both Ryan and Sarah each took a turn with the microphone, offering words of wisdom, encouragement, and love. It was one of those moments that reminded me how weddings are never just about two people, they’re about families coming together, histories intertwining, and communities celebrating the start of something new. There were laughs, there were a few tears, and there was no shortage of love filling the room.
First Dances
With dinner and toasts wrapped up, the lights dimmed and the music began. Ryan and Sarah took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. They held each other close, swaying side to side. Next came the parent dances — Sarah with her dad, Ryan with his mom. Both moments were filled with tenderness, love, and more than a few tears. You could see the pride and joy in their parents’ eyes, and it was a privilege to capture those fleeting but powerful moments.
A Cozy Evening Celebration
The dance floor soon opened, and guests filtered in and out — some dancing, others chatting over cocktails, all of them wrapped in the warmth of the evening. The music set the tone, the laughter carried through the space, and everywhere I looked I saw people genuinely enjoying themselves. Ryan and Sarah’s evening was cozy, intimate, and full of love. People connected, conversations flowed, and the couple had exactly the kind of celebration that suited them best.
Ryan and Sarah, thank you for inviting me into your wedding day. It was such a joy to walk alongside you, to witness your first look by the river, your ceremony with the city skyline in the background, and your cozy celebration at O’Shaughnessy. May your marriage be filled with the same steady joy you carried through your wedding day , laughter in the quiet moments, warmth in the storms, and love that only grows stronger with time.
